Free medical assistance up to ?1.5 lakh for road accident victims: A new revolutionary scheme by the central government.
New Delhi, January 9, 2026: To curb the rising number of road accidents in the country, the central government is introducing modern technology and new schemes. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that a Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication system will be launched soon, which will alert drivers before an accident occurs.
This V2V technology will provide real-time alerts regarding vehicle speed, location, and obstacles. Additionally, a cashless treatment scheme for accident victims is being launched, providing free treatment up to ?1.5 lakh for 7 days. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce this scheme soon.
Individuals who help accident victims will be rewarded with ?25,000 as 'Rahveer' (Road Hero). This scheme has been successfully implemented as a pilot project in some states.
Every year, 5 lakh accidents occur in the country, resulting in 1.8 lakh deaths. 66% of the victims are young people. The government is introducing 61 amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, including safety standards, ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), and a demerit point system.
The Transport Development Council meeting discussed bus safety, BNCAP rating, and digital licenses. This scheme will bring about a significant change in road safety.
