Manipur again in the grip of violence, 6 people died in firing; Commandos deployed after bombing at former CM's house
Imphal: Manipur is once again burning in the fire of violence. The violence that started on Friday continued for the second day on Saturday. It is being told that an elderly person of the Meitei community was killed during the violence. In response to this incident, four Kuki militants have been killed in Jiribam district. Actually, the latest round of violence in Manipur started from Sero, Moljol, Rashidpur and Nungchappi villages of Jiribam district adjoining southern Assam. Intermittent firing continued till 10 am on Saturday. The situation there remains tense due to the firing. According to the latest information, the death toll has gone up to 6.
This is how the violence broke out
A team of Assam Rifles, Central Armed Police Force and Manipur Police commandos have been deployed to stop the violence that broke out in Jiribam district of Manipur. A police officer said that suspected Kuki militants started attacking different areas of Jiribam district on Tuesday. During this, an elderly person of the Meitei community was killed. It is learned that the deceased was sleeping during the incident.
Meanwhile, the Manipur government on Saturday ordered the closure of all educational institutions in the state. Also, in view of the tense situation, security forces have been ordered to remain on high alert and intensify anti-insurgency operations. Earlier, a bomb attack was carried out on the residence of former Manipur Chief Minister Mairembam Koireng in Vishnupur district. An elderly man was killed and six others were injured in this bomb blast. According to the police, the bomb was thrown from a long distance, which fell on the premises of the former Chief Minister's residence. Koireng and his family members were not present at home during this incident. The deceased was identified as RK Rabei.
