NCP's watch on Jintur strongroom: Double security of workers and CCTV
NCP's vigilance on EVM strongroom: CCTV cameras installed in Jintur at its own expense
Parbhani, December 8, 2025: After the completion of the municipal and nagar panchayat elections in Maharashtra, strict vigil is being maintained on the EVM strongroom as the counting of votes will be held on December 21. Along with the armed police, candidates and their representatives are also on alert. Similarly, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has installed CCTV cameras outside the strongroom in Jintur at its own expense. The party claims that this should not lead to any untoward incident and should not create suspicion of tampering with the results.
NCP workers have kept their own watch on the strongroom where EVMs are stored in Jintur (Parbhani district). The party has ensured transparency by installing CCTV cameras at this place. "We will not allow any disruption in the election process. We have taken these measures with our own support," said a local NCP leader. The party's step has also sparked discussions among other political parties, which is believed to increase confidence in the Election Commission system.
Strongroom cases across the state: Incidents at various places
Various incidents have taken place at strongrooms in Maharashtra. Uddhav Sena has complained that a CCTV camera in the strongroom for the Malvan Municipality elections in Sindhudurg district went black. Although the Election Commission has given a clarification on this, the political atmosphere has heated up.
There was talk of CCTV cameras being switched off on Sunday at the place where EVMs are stored at Thorat Sports Complex in Sangamner in Ahmednagar district. Election Returning Officer Arun Unde said, "The hard disk was full and it was replaced. The entire process has been filmed and 12 CCTV cameras are running 24 hours a day." After this clarification, doubts were cleared to some extent.
However, in Shahada in Nandurbar district, a case has been registered against a woman candidate, Seema Parveen Sajid Ansari, for spreading false rumours. She had created a ruckus by claiming that the strongroom seal had been broken and tampered with, the police said.
Role of political parties important for transparency
These incidents make it clear that the active role of political parties is necessary to maintain transparency in the election process. It is expected that other parties will also adopt measures like the NCP. The Election Commission says that the strongroom will be strictly guarded till the counting of votes, and no doubt will be allowed to arise.
