Nagpur University Extends Major Support to Drought-Affected Students; Special Task Force Formed
Nagpur: Due to scanty rainfall this year, drought conditions have been declared in 265 talukas across 34 districts of the state. All 14 talukas of Nagpur district have also been declared drought-affected. Against this backdrop, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has constituted a task force to ensure that students from these areas do not face academic or financial hardships.
This committee has been formed in accordance with the directives of the Department of Higher and Technical Education and the instructions of the Director of Higher Education, Dr. Shailendra Deolankar. Dr. Anup Palsokar, Director of the Board of Examinations and Evaluation, has been appointed as the committee's chairperson. Dr. Vijay Tangde (Director, Student Development Department) and Dr. Sopandev Pise (Director, National Service Scheme) serve as members, while Deputy Registrar Motiram Tadas will act as the coordinator and liaison officer. The committee will function under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Manali Kshirsagar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Akhilesh Peshwe, and Registrar Dr. Vijay Khandal.
The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating between the university and colleges to ensure that drought-affected students receive necessary assistance. In accordance with the Department of Higher and Technical Education's letter dated September 30, 2026, colleges are instructed not to collect examination fees from eligible students belonging to drought-affected talukas. College principals are responsible for verifying the students' applications against the certificates specified in the government resolution and forwarding them to the university. Registrar Dr. Vijay Khandal has appealed to colleges in the drought-affected talukas to extend the necessary cooperation to the task force.
