Notices Issued to 672 Offices for Non-Compliance with POSH Act
Nagpur, 11th: Since June, the State’s Women and Child Development Department has initiated inspections of government and private offices, institutions, companies, and their branches across the state. These inspections, conducted by over 4,000 officers, aim to verify compliance with the provisions of the POSH Act 2013 and the directives of the Supreme Court of India. To date, a total of 6,875 inspections have been carried out—covering 3,579 government and 3,296 private entities. Consequently, 672 "show-cause" notices have been issued at the district level to 294 government and 378 private offices for failing to comply with the regulations.
If the offices receiving these notices fail to ensure compliance within the stipulated timeframe, the concerned District Authorities and District Women and Child Development Officers will initiate action to impose fines of up to ?50,000, as per the provisions of the Act. In Nagpur district, 144 government and 269 private entities were inspected; show-cause notices were issued to 9 government and 18 private offices for non-compliance. It is mandatory for all government and private offices, institutions, companies, and their branches in the district to adhere to the POSH Act 2013 and Supreme Court directives. This includes registering the office on the Central Government’s 'SHE-Box' portal, establishing and registering an Internal Committee, conducting training for the committee and employees, and updating the portal with details such as annual reports. Authorities have stated that if non-compliance is detected during inspections, action will be taken against the concerned offices, institutions, or companies in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
