Pune Zilla Parishad Election 2026: Congress and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi's Joint Strategy; Contesting Together on 73 Seats
Pune, January 21, 2026: The Indian National Congress and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi have officially announced an alliance for the upcoming Pune Zilla Parishad elections. Under this alliance, both parties will jointly field candidates for 73 seats in the Zilla Parishad and 146 seats in the Panchayat Samiti. This announcement was made at a joint press conference by Congress District President Shrirang Patil and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi National Secretary and Pune District Coordinator Adv. Priyadarshi Telang.
The two leaders stated that the objective of this alliance is not merely to gain power, but to stop anti-constitutional and casteist forces. They noted that this political unity is aimed at preventing the division of votes of the Bahujan, deprived, and oppressed sections of society and to strengthen the ideology of social justice.
The candidate selection process is based on grassroots discussions and a study of local conditions. The taluka presidents of both parties have suggested the names of potential candidates, and the district leadership has given them final approval.
