Mumbai: Sports journalist, writer, critic and commentator Vs. Vs. (Baal) Karmarkar passed away today at Andheri in Mumbai due to old age. He was 85 years old. An encyclopedia of sports journalism, a young sports journalist and a guide to sportsmen's rights has been lost due to his demise. He was cremated at Parshiwada Crematorium in Andheri.
Originally from Nashik, Karamkar's father was a doctor. He wanted his son to become a doctor too. However, Karamkar chose a different path of journalism after doing MA. He also dabbled in sports journalism. He insisted that Marathi newspapers should have maximum sports news like English newspapers. From the same insistence, a separate page dedicated to the subject of sports was started in the Marathi newspaper. On this page, he gave priority to the news of domestic and foreign sports.
