Retired Supreme Court Judge Abhay Manohar Sapre said it was important to look at ways to reduce road accidents and prevent casualties.
     The review meeting of the Road Safety Committee constituted by the Supreme Court was held at Hotel Pride by the chairman of the committee, retired Judge Abhay Manohar Sapre. The meeting was attended by Upper Director General of Highways and Traffic Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, Transport Commissioner Dr. Avinash Dhakne, Collector Vimala R, Commissioner of Police Smt. , District Surgeon Dr. D. Paturkar, General Manager of National Highways Vadettiwar, Regional Transport Officer Khanderao Deshmukh, Regional Transport Officer Nagpur Rural Bajrang Kharmate, as well as officials of roads and related agencies were present.
       While giving guidance, Justice Sapre directed to draw attention on how to control accidents and reduce accidents as well as how to reduce the number of deaths in them. Quality completion of road works is required. The work of the black spot needs to be completed quickly. A quality check is required to ensure that the number of accidents is reduced after completion of the work. Violation of speed limit on the road is the leading cause of accidents, accounting for 69% of accidents. It needs to be intimidated by the strict enforcement of rules by the police and the transport department. Also, it needs to be followed up consistently. Awareness in this regard should be spread on a large scale. Each system should coordinate with each other. A person injured in an accident should receive immediate treatment. Also, incidental action should be taken immediately. All this work should be done very sensitively by each system. In this regard, awareness should be created among the people and all the agencies should coordinate with each other, he said.
     This time they will make the government better roads. Install speed bumps, notice boards where necessary. But at the same time, it is necessary for the drivers to wear helmets, fasten their seat belts, not to drive in the opposite direction, not to drive while intoxicated. All these rules are designed to save millions of lives. Run a publicity campaign to inculcate this in the citizens. Appeal to the citizens again and again, he also clarified at this time.
