Kolkata. There were several incidents of violence and booth capturing in the panchayat elections held on July 8 in West Bengal. In such a situation, on Monday, the Election Commission conducted re-voting at 697 booths in 19 districts. Where a total of 53.95% polling took place from 7 am to 3 pm.
However, there was no major incident of violence during voting today. 35 live bombs were recovered in Mushirdabad. At the same time, a TMC councilor was thrashed by a mob in Tumluk of East Medinipur late on Sunday night on charges of changing the ballot box. A man threw a stone at his head.
Earlier on July 8, polling was held for 64,874 out of 73,887 gram panchayat seats. During this, 17 people had died in violent incidents in more than 19 districts. The election schedule was revealed in the state on June 8, since then there have been reports of violence in the state.
From June 8 to July 7, 19 people had lost their lives in the violence. And on July 8, 17 people died in different incidents. Today, after 32 days, the number of people who lost their lives due to violence in the state has gone up to 36.
The results of the polling for all the panchayat seats in the state will come on July 11.
