Mumbai, Dec 11: Indians have always had a sense of sanctity and respect for water sources, rivers, mountains, hills and forests. However, due to the influence of western culture, this feeling is reduced and the environment is being exploited everywhere. Jungle mafias are also operating in some places. In such a situation, nature-loving citizens need to contribute more to save the environment, said Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
He was speaking at the occasion when 30 people from various fields working for forest and environment protection were conferred the Environment Friend Award at the hands of the Governor at Raj Bhavan.
At the hands of the Governor, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge was honored with the Environment Friend Award for his outstanding work in the Forest Department. The event was organized by Gau Bharat Bharati and Karnala Charitable Trust in Pune. Trustee of Karnala Trust Chandrakant Shahsane, President of Gau Bharat Bharati Sanjay Sharma 'Aman', Forest Service Officer Ranganath Naikade and Nandini Shahsane were present on the occasion.
The books 'Paryavaran Vichar' written by Chandrakant Shah and 'Ganga Mahatmyam' written by the late Dr. Brahmashankar Vyas were published by the Governor. The forest department has the closest relationship with the environment. However, the staff-officers' relationship with the forest comes only for the job. Farmers, on the other hand, have a twenty-four hour relationship with nature. Therefore, farmers and uneducated women in rural areas are also more sensitive to the environment. The Governor said that this sensitivity and love of nature needs to be inculcated in the new generation. At the beginning of the program, tributes were paid to the forest martyrs.
