PM Modi reached Beijing after 7 years
BEIJING: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tianjin on Saturday after nearly 7 years amid changing relations with China, where he will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit from August 31 to September 1. Beijing was also very excited about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China. China rolled out the red carpet to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amid the ongoing tension between the US and India over tariffs, this move by China is enough to inflame the US. The bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping on Sunday is being considered as a major blow for America strategically and diplomatically.
PM Modi and Xi Jinping meeting fixed
Apart from the SCO, a bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping has been scheduled for Sunday. Both the leaders will meet face to face after 7 years in China. Relations between India and China had soured after a violent clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, but relations between the two countries began to improve after a meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping in Kazakhstan last year. Now the heavy tariffs imposed by the US on China first and then on India have brought New Delhi and Beijing even closer.
What is the issue?
PM Modi's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday is being considered very important. The reason is clear that India and China are going to hold this meeting in order to strengthen their bilateral relations amid tensions in global trade arising from Trump's tariff policy. In the meeting, Modi and Xi are likely to review India-China economic relations and discuss measures to de-escalate relations after the border dispute in Ladakh in the past. Modi arrived in Tianjin, China from Japan as part of the second and final leg of his two-nation tour.
PM Modi will meet with Putin
During the SCO summit, PM Modi will also meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, September 1. Apart from this, he can also hold bilateral talks with many other leaders. Before his visit to Tianjin, Modi had said that it is important for India and China to work together to bring stability to the global financial system. In an interview to the Japanese newspaper 'The Yomiuri Shimbun' on Friday, the Prime Minister said that stable, predictable and friendly relations between India and China can have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity. He said, "In view of the current instability in the world economy, it is necessary for two big economies like India and China to work together to bring stability to the global financial system."
