350 kg of explosives detonated outside a police station in Srinagar; Suspicion points to 'that' mysterious car?

Srinagar, November 15, 2025 – A major explosion rocked Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, this afternoon. A car parked outside a police station in the central part of the city was filled with about 350 kg of explosives, which suddenly exploded and caused extensive damage in the area. At least 5 people were injured in the incident, and a large crack has been left in the police station building. The police have immediately sealed the area and started an investigation, and the needle of suspicion has turned to the mysterious car. Questions about how exactly this car came, who brought it and how the explosives were stored have worried the security agencies.
The incident took place at around 12:30 pm. A white SUV car was parked outside the main police station near the Lal Chowk area of ??Srinagar. According to local residents, the car was seen parked there since morning. Suddenly, there was a loud noise and the front part of the car exploded. The blast was so powerful that the windows of the surrounding shops were shattered, a crater appeared on the road and a plume of smoke spread far and wide. The injured included two police personnel and three civilians. All were immediately admitted to the nearby SMHS Hospital, where doctors said their condition was stable.
Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the car was loaded with high-grade explosives like RDX. It is estimated that these explosives, weighing a total of 350 kg, were to be used for a terrorist attack. "This car was brought to target the police station. Fortunately, the explosives did not detonate completely, otherwise there would have been a huge loss of life," Srinagar SSP Rakesh Balia told reporters. When the police checked the number plate of the car, it was found to be fake. NIA and ATS teams have been called to find out who owns the car and where it came from.
Security in the Kashmir Valley has been tightened in the wake of this incident. High alert has been issued in Jammu, Anantnag and Baramulla districts along with Srinagar. Home Minister Amit Shah took serious note of the incident and spoke to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over the phone. "We will never forgive terrorists. The culprits will be severely punished after a thorough investigation into this incident," Shah tweeted.
An atmosphere of fear has arisen among the locals. "We commute on this road every day. This car was parked since morning, but no one suspected it," said a shopkeeper. Terrorist organizations Lashkar-e-Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammad are suspected to be involved in this. There have been increasing incidents of seizures of such explosives in Kashmir in the last few months, but this is the first time that such a large stockpile has been found directly outside a police station.
When the investigating agencies checked the CCTV footage, it appears that the car was brought by a masked person. The person abandoned the car and fled, and the explosion took place a few minutes later. It is believed that the explosives were detonated by remote control or timer. The forensic team has collected samples from the spot and the report is expected soon.
The incident is also likely to affect tourism in Kashmir. A cautionary warning has been issued to tourists visiting during the winter. The central government has ordered the deployment of additional CRPF teams in Kashmir. "350 kg of explosives is not a small quantity. This could be a big conspiracy by terrorists," said security experts.
The police have appealed to the public to immediately inform them if they see suspicious vehicles or people. They have been asked to contact the helpline number 100. The investigation into the incident is underway and more information is expected to come out soon.
