A blow to the BJP! Shirsat's threat over 41 seats - We will contest independently
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, December 29, 2025: As tensions escalate in the municipal corporation election arena, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) has clarified its stance. Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat issued a strong warning to the BJP, stating, "Our proposal for 41 seats is non-negotiable. There will be no compromise. If they want an alliance, fine, otherwise we are ready to contest independently."
With only two days left for filing election nominations, the differences within the Mahayuti alliance have come to the fore. Shirsat stated that despite 8-9 meetings, no concrete proposal has yet been received from the BJP. Expressing displeasure over the negative attitude of local BJP leaders, he has lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. "We have distributed AB forms to our candidates and instructed them to file their nominations. If an alliance happens, it's good, otherwise we are fully prepared," Shirsat said at a press conference.
Criticism of the Opposition
Shirsat also launched a scathing attack on the opposition. Attacking Sanjay Raut and Uddhav Thackeray, he said, "It is only because we rebelled that Raut got a platform to speak." On the issue of the Thackeray faction prioritizing Muslim candidates, he mocked, "Uddhav Sena has now become 'UbaTha Mamoo'. They only see the arithmetic of votes." He also made a cryptic remark about the possible coming together of Raj Thackeray and both factions of the NCP.
Discussions are underway in political circles regarding whether the unity within the Mahayuti alliance will remain intact in this election. It is being said that Shirsat's stance has created unease within the BJP.
