Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation sees internal conflict within the Mahayuti alliance; disgruntled aspirants receive invitations from the MVA

Ahilyanagar, December 26, 2025: Internal conflicts are escalating within the Mahayuti alliance ahead of the upcoming Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporation elections. With a large number of aspiring candidates from all three parties – BJP, Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar faction of NCP – disputes over seat allocation are ongoing. While one party dominates in some wards, a tug-of-war continues in the remaining areas. As a result, the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) is contacting candidates who are on the fence, and a major upset in the elections is being predicted.
A total of 68 corporators will be elected from 17 wards of the municipal corporation. The last date for filing nomination papers is December 30. Although all three parties in the Mahayuti have instructed their aspirants to start campaigning, seat allocation is yet to be finalized. Secret meetings of senior leaders are underway, and an agreement has been reached in four to five wards. However, the Shinde Sena has claimed 24 seats. Although Kotkar's supporters have given interviews to the BJP, their candidature remains uncertain.
Some loyal BJP aspirants are likely to be dropped. In wards where the Mahayuti's calculations are not working out, the MVA is reaching out to the disgruntled candidates. MP Nilesh Lanka is leading the MVA, and his network is expanding in the city. Senior leaders and loyalists from the Mahayuti are also in contact with Lanka. As the number of disgruntled candidates is increasing, the MVA is strategizing to bring them to their side.
Internal sabotage within the Mahayuti: Since the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), Shinde Sena, and BJP do not have candidates in all wards, preparations for contesting independently are underway. However, behind-the-scenes efforts are also being made to poach aspirants from within the Mahayuti and field them on the MVA's symbol. This has led to intense political maneuvering and infighting within the grand alliance, and the election campaign is showing signs of becoming even more intense.
