Car bomb blast near Red Fort: Delhi shaken, fear of death

A massive explosion near Delhi's Red Fort; A car flew into the air, surrounding vehicles were burnt to ashes
New Delhi, November 10, 2025 (Updated at 7:30 PM):-A massive explosion that suddenly occurred just a few hundred meters from the historic Red Fort in the capital Delhi this evening shook the entire area. According to preliminary information, a bomb-like explosion occurred in a suspicious car, due to which many vehicles parked nearby were engulfed in flames. The explosion was so powerful that the windows of buildings in the area were shattered and people on the streets were thrown far away.
Immediately after the explosion, huge plumes of smoke were seen in the area. Fire engines and ambulances have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway on a war footing. A special team of Delhi Police has sealed the area, and the NSG and the Bomb Disposal Squad have started an investigation. The official figures on how many people were injured or killed in the blast are yet to be released, but eyewitnesses said that at least 4-5 people were seen in critical condition.
Eyewitness's thrilling experience
A local resident near the scene, Mr. Rakesh Kumar, said, "I have never heard such a big blast in my life. I fell down three times due to the blast. I felt like we were all going to die. There was smoke and fire everywhere. People were screaming, some were lying in pools of blood." Another eyewitness said, "The car suddenly went up in the air and then there was a huge noise. I thought there was an earthquake."
Cause of the blast still under investigation
Police said that the blast was likely caused by an IED (improvised explosive device) planted in the car. But the exact cause is still unclear. An investigation is underway to determine whether it was a terrorist attack or personal enmity. The Union Home Ministry has also taken serious note of the matter and has ordered a high-level inquiry.
Atmosphere of terror in the area
The Red Fort, Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid areas are always crowded with tourists. This area is also crowded in the evening. After the blast, many tourists started running in panic. Some have suffered minor injuries. Delhi Metro services were suspended from the nearest station for some time.
Response from the Prime Minister's Office
The Prime Minister's Office tweeted, "Information received about the blast near the Red Fort. Ensure that the injured get immediate medical attention. The guilty will not be spared." Home Minister Amit Shah has immediately held a meeting with the Delhi Police Commissioner.
Political reaction
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, "This incident in Delhi is very unfortunate. The government should ensure the safety of citizens." Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has appealed to Delhiites to remain calm.
