Deepak Kesarkar's mysterious financial help in Rohit Arya case; Vijay Kumbhar demands investigation

Pune, October 31, 2025: In the wake of the horrific incident in Powai, a mysterious financial transaction by former School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar has created a stir in political and social circles. Why did Kesarkar give lakhs of rupees from his own pocket to Rohit Arya, the accused who held children hostage? For what purpose was this amount given? And what is the connection between this and irregularities in the government's education department? Raising many questions, social activist Vijay Kumbhar has demanded a thorough investigation into the case. This incident is also raising the question of whether Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will have to directly intervene in the controversy that has erupted in Maharashtra politics.
A brief review of the incident: Horrific past incident in Powai
This incident that took place in the Powai area of ??Mumbai last week is still creating fear in the minds of people. A 32-year-old youth named Rohit Arya had held school children hostage. The reason? The outstanding bill for the school scheme received from the government. Arya claimed that instead of refunding the fee collected from the children on his website, the government has stopped his bill. An angry Arya threatened the children with sharp objects in his hands and held them hostage. Arya was immediately confronted by the police. After this incident, some revelations came to light from Arya's diary, which shows his closeness to the education department. However, in this context, the issue of Deepak Kesarkar's financial assistance has now become the most sensitive.
Social activist Vijay Kumbhar discussed the matter in detail at a press conference in Pune today. He said, "The documents that Rohit Arya has registered show his deep connections with the education department. He has written that he should get money from the government. However, the then education commissioner and former minister Deepak Kesarkar is denying all this. If there is really no money left, why would Arya go on a hunger strike or protest? There must be some secret transaction behind this. And the big question is the huge amount given by Kesarkar from his own pocket."
Kesarkar's financial assistance: Sympathy or something else?
Earlier, while talking to the media, Deepak Kesarkar had said that the reason for this assistance was 'sympathy'. According to him, the children's lives were in danger during the incident of taking the children hostage. "If anything had happened to the children, it would have been a big mistake. In our view, the lives of the children are more important than the bills. I gave financial assistance to Rohit Arya from my own pocket, thinking that today's bills will be paid tomorrow," Kesarkar said. Also, according to a press note issued by the education department, Arya had created a website and collected unauthorized fees from the children. The department had asked him to return the amount and give an undertaking not to do so again. However, the bill was stopped due to non-compliance. "The bill would have been approved after the government rules were followed. There was a provision of funds for the scheme," Kesarkar also clarified.
However, according to Vijay Kumbhar, these explanations do not hold water. "Why would any political leader or minister give such a huge amount from his own pocket? This is not an example of common sympathy. There could be some kind of secret agreement behind this. Was Arya mentally ill or did the government's policies make him behave like this? These days, ministers and officials keep their own stake in tenders or transactions instead of asking for a direct percentage. All these aspects should be investigated," said Kumbhar. He added, "Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis should come forward and clarify this matter. If the doubts in the minds of the people are not cleared, this matter will escalate further."
