Farmers, do not rely solely on the initial rainfall! Decide on sowing only after June 15 – Appeal by Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne
Mumbai: With the monsoon expected to arrive in the state soon, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne has issued an important advisory for farmers. Citing the Meteorological Department's forecast, which predicts low rainfall in many parts of the state between June 12 and 15, he has advised farmers not to rush into sowing.
As the Kharif season approaches, many farmers are preparing to begin sowing immediately after the first rains. However, a lack of consistent rainfall could lead to significant crop damage. Consequently, Agriculture Minister Bharne has urged farmers to exercise caution.
Bharne stated, "There is a possibility of scanty rainfall in some parts of the state between June 12 and 15. Sowing based solely on the initial rains carries the risk of seed wastage. Farmers should regularly monitor the Meteorological Department's forecasts and decide on sowing only after the rainfall situation becomes clear post-June 15."
While scattered showers are likely in parts of Marathwada, Khandesh, Vidarbha, and Central Maharashtra, widespread, satisfactory rainfall is not guaranteed. However, conditions are expected to become more favorable for rain across the state after June 15. Therefore, the Agriculture Minister has appealed to farmers to remain patient for a few days and proceed with sowing only after assessing the rainfall situation.
