Floods wreak havoc in Assam; 39 dead - More than 4 lakh people affected

Guwahati. Nearly 4 lakh people have been affected by the severe floods in Assam. A senior official said that more than 3.90 lakh people in the state are facing the horrors of floods. The situation is still serious in many areas of the state due to heavy rains and floods. He said that the flood situation has improved slightly due to less rain in some parts, but 19 districts are still in the grip of floods.
Officials said that the death toll due to floods, landslides and storms this year has reached 37, while one person is missing.
Karimganj is the worst affected district, where 2.40 lakh people have been affected by the floods. It is known that rivers like Kopila in Dharamtul, Barak in BP Ghat and Kushiyara in Karimganj are flowing above the danger mark.
According to the report, officials said that more than 1,71,000 people have been displaced. 15,160 people have taken shelter in temporary relief camps. The state government has set up 245 relief camps in 17 districts. Karimganj district has the highest number of such camps.
