In Nagpur Municipal Corporation Elections, Candidacy Decision to be Based on Surveys; Gadkari Guides Party Workers

Nagpur, December 26, 2025: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave a clear message to BJP workers regarding demands for candidature at the Atal Samvad meeting. With a surge in the number of party workers seeking candidature for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, Gadkari stated that the decision would not be made by him or Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The final decision on candidature will depend on surveys conducted by the party.
At the meeting dedicated to the memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Gadkari recounted memories from his youth. He said, "If you are asking for candidature, be prepared to face criticism. Don't hurt the feelings of the workers who come to meet you at home. Give them at least some time and accept their applications." Approximately 5,000 workers have applied for candidature in Nagpur and other cities, leading to the cancellation of events at Gadkari's residence.
Gadkari cited the example of a woman who, despite being a successful corporator, cried because she did not get the mayoral post. "The public should be involved. If your parents are coming to ask for candidature, it's meaningless," he said. The party has conducted four surveys under the leadership of Gadkari and Fadnavis, and since there are many eligible candidates for each seat, the selection will be based on merit.
