Lebanon Rocked by Sudden Israeli Attacks; Over 100 Missile Strikes in Beirut, Hundreds Left Homeless

Beirut, April 9, 2026: Just hours after a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran was announced, Israel launched massive airstrikes against Lebanon. The Lebanese Ministry of Health has reported that these attacks killed 89 people and injured approximately 700 others within a span of just 10 minutes. Fears are being expressed that the death toll could rise further.
Israel has stated that it struck more than 100 targets across Lebanon. Of these, over 60 airstrikes were carried out within the city of Beirut. Although Israel claimed that the attacks were primarily focused on Hezbollah targets, residential areas and commercial buildings have sustained extensive damage. These sudden attacks have spread terror throughout the city, and hospitals are struggling to cope with the influx of casualties.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has shared harrowing photographs taken in the aftermath of the attacks. These images depict devastated buildings, billowing plumes of smoke, and injured civilians. A spokesperson for the Lebanese Ministry of Health told Reuters, "89 people have been killed and 700 injured in the Israeli attacks."
Following these attacks, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the Israeli action as "barbaric." This major assault—occurring after the ceasefire—has dealt a severe blow to the peace process in West Asia, prompting Iran to express its strong displeasure. According to some reports, hundreds of people have been left homeless as a result of these attacks.
The current situation remains extremely tense, and there are apprehensions that the conflict could escalate once again. The Lebanese government has appealed to the international community for assistance.
