Nine people including Congress candidates withdraw; Fadnavis family's unopposed political success in Chikhaldara Municipality

Chikhaldara, November 20, 2025 (Representative): Another important development has taken place on the political scene of Maharashtra, with BJP candidate Alhad Kaloti being elected unopposed in the Chikhaldara Municipality elections. This victory of Kaloti, who is the maternal uncle of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has come as a big relief to the parties. Before the deadline for nominations expired this morning, a total of nine candidates including Congress candidates Sheikh Irshad Sheikh Jamil and Nathu Khadke withdrew their candidatures, leaving Kaloti with no option.
Initially, nominations were filed by various parties in this election. However, in the final stage, the withdrawal of candidates from other small parties including the Congress made Alhad Kaloti's election process very easy. The election officer announced his unopposed election in the afternoon. This success is being seen as a sign of the local strength of the Fadnavis government, especially in the tribal-dominated Chikhaldara area of ??Vidarbha.
Speaking after the election, Alhad Kaloti said, "This victory is not just mine, but the tireless efforts of the party workers and the vision of local development. I will work with full dedication for the progress of Chikhaldara Municipality." He said that priority will be given to infrastructure, water supply and education sectors. Political analysts are of the opinion that this election has further strengthened the BJP's grip on local politics.
Meanwhile, although the Congress party has expressed disappointment over this retreat, sources said that this is a strategy in internal discussions. Chikhaldara Municipality is an important institution in Vidarbha, and its decisions are important in terms of local development. The functioning of this institution is expected under the leadership of Alhad Kaloti.
