PM Modi received Bhutan's highest civilian honor

Thimphu. The King of Bhutan on Friday honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the 'Order of the Druk Gyalpo'. It is Bhutan's highest civilian honour. PM Modi is the first foreign leader to receive this honour.
The ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ honor holds great importance in Bhutan. It is considered a symbol of outstanding achievements and contribution to society throughout life. Honoring the Druk Gyalpo takes precedence over all honours, decorations and medals. Since its inception, the award has been presented to only four eminent personalities. Till now, 15 countries have honored PM Modi with their highest honour.
Only four people have received this honor
Previous recipients of the Order of the Druk Gyalpo award include Queen Grandmother of Bhutan Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck in 2008. The honor was conferred on Je Thrizur Tenzin Dendup (68th Je Khenpo of Bhutan) in 2008 and Je Khenpo Trulku Ngawang Jigme Choedra in 2018. Je Khenpo is the chief abbot of the central monastic body of Bhutan.
PM Modi has reached Bhutan on a two-day visit
PM Modi met Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Thimphu on Friday, beginning his two-day state visit to Bhutan. PM Modi was given a grand welcome before meeting the King of Bhutan. Prime Minister Modi has reached Bhutan on a two-day state visit with the aim of further strengthening India's unique relations with Bhutan under the Neighborhood First policy. Hours after his arrival, Prime Minister Modi said he was grateful to the Bhutanese people for the memorable welcome they received in the beautiful country. He expressed hope that India-Bhutan friendship will continue to reach new heights.
PM Modi praised the people of Bhutan
PM Modi wrote in a post on The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Friday that the visit is in line with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan and the government's exercise to emphasize the Neighborhood First policy.
