Shocking Incident on the Eve of Tomorrow's Exam! 50 Geography Question Papers Stolen from Board's Strong Room in Sangola
Solapur: A shocking incident has occurred in the Sangola taluka of Solapur district. A total of 50 Class 10 Geography question papers were stolen after the Board's custody strong room at the Sangola Vidyamandir School examination center was broken into. The incident took place around midnight on Monday (approximately 2:00 AM) and came to light around 8:30 AM on Tuesday.
This incident occurred during the ongoing Class 10 examinations conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE). The Geography examination was scheduled to be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The thieves used a cutter to break the iron padlock of the strong room, stole a bundle of 50 question papers—contained in two packets (25 papers each) inside box number 5449—and subsequently resealed the door with paper before leaving, in an attempt to prevent immediate detection.
Police personnel and two Home Guards were stationed outside the strong room for security duty; however, unfortunately, as the CCTV cameras were non-functional, no direct footage of the thieves is available. Nevertheless, preliminary reports suggest that CCTV footage from a nearby shop appears to show a student carrying the question papers away.
This incident has raised serious questions regarding the confidentiality and security of the examinations. According to Sachin Jagtap, the Secondary Education Officer, Block Education Officer Suyog Navale and the school's Principal, Amol Gaikwad, have been placed under immediate suspension. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation, with further inquiries currently underway.
The Board has clarified that the examination will proceed exactly as scheduled and that neither students nor parents need to panic. Nevertheless, this incident has caused a stir within the education sector across the state.
