•- Vidarbha's Startup Ecosystem Strengthened
Mumbai/Nagpur, 17th: Taking a significant step towards empowering the startup ecosystem in the Vidarbha region, the Maharashtra State Innovation Society—operating under the Maharashtra Government's Department of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation—organized a two-day strategic workshop for its supported Incubation Centers. The workshop saw the participation of heads of Incubation Centers from across the state, educational institutions, and various other stakeholders within the ecosystem.
During this workshop, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Maharashtra State Innovation Society and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur. Consequently, IIM Nagpur has been officially recognized as an Incubation Center supported by the Maharashtra State Innovation Society. This strategic inclusion is expected to provide a major impetus to innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growth of startups in the Vidarbha region.
Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, underscored the government's commitment to building a robust and inclusive startup ecosystem within the state. He noted that such institutional collaborations would provide startups with appropriate guidance, support, and opportunities, thereby contributing to regional development.
Ms. Manisha Verma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, emphasized the critical importance of enhancing institutional capacity to support early-stage innovators. She further stated that a competent incubation system is essential for fostering innovation at the district and local levels.
Dr. Shrikant Patil, Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra State Innovation Society, stated that a strong network of 29 supported Incubation Centers has been established across the state, assisting startups in their journey from the ideation stage to becoming scalable enterprises. He further clarified that the Maharashtra State Innovation Society is actively striving to foster a collaborative ecosystem among incubation centers by facilitating the mutual exchange of knowledge, skills, and opportunities.
During this workshop, emphasis was placed not only on strengthening incubation methodologies but also on ensuring long-term sustainability. In sessions led by Ramanan Ramanathan—former Director of the Atal Innovation Mission and Additional Secretary at NITI Aayog—and Prasad Menon, President of ISBA, the critical importance of ensuring the financial, operational, and strategic sustainability of incubation centers was underscored.
With the inclusion of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur, within the Maharashtra State Innovation Society's network of incubation centers, aspiring entrepreneurs in the Vidarbha region will now have more effective access to mentorship, industry linkages, and innovation support. This initiative is expected to generate new opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs, thereby further solidifying Maharashtra's standing as a leading hub for startups and innovation within the country.
