Take measures on orange and citrus fruits - Sunil Kedar
Nagpur, dt. 24: Orange and citrus growers in Katol and Narkhed talukas have been facing fruit shortage in both the springs since last year. So these farmers are suffering. Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Sunil Kedar instructed to take a discussion session of the farmers and take immediate action.
He was speaking at a review meeting on various issues held at the Collectorate's Chhatrapati Sabha. Z.P. President Rashmi Barve, officials of various departments and people's representatives were present on the occasion.
Orange and citrus orchards have been found to be infested with fungal pests. The affected farmers will be assisted by the government, he said. In order to find out the disease on oranges and citrus, the scientists should inspect the farmers' dams and submit a report on the measures taken and solve the problems of the orange and citrus growers. He suggested that the agriculture department should immediately provide medicine for the disease and spray pesticides.
The wells of poor farmers have been depleted due to heavy rains. The government should prepare a report as a helping hand and provide wells to the farmers through MREGS. Proposals for repair of worn out wells should be sent to the government by September 15.
