Fire in the parking lot of the building, 8 killed and 51 injured

-PM Modi announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh

Mumbai At least 8 people, including 5 women, were killed and 51 others were injured in a massive fire that broke out in the parking lot of a building in Mumbai's Goregaon early Friday. BMC Disaster Control gave this information.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
The fire broke out around 3 am in the 2000-square-foot parking lot of Jai Bhavani Building on MG Road. The fire engulfed at least four cars and 30 two-wheelers and then spread to the electric meter box, stairs and within no time the flames reached the residential floors.
Mumbai Police, Mumbai Fire Brigade and other agencies rushed to the spot and managed to rescue 30 residents with shops and establishments partially occupied on the ground floor.

On the fire in Goregaon, Mumbai, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, 'I am continuously talking to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner and the police... What happened is unfortunate. I express my condolences to those who lost their lives in this accident, the government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to their families... Those who are injured will be treated by the government.
