“Karnataka Government Declares Drought; Why is Maharashtra’s ‘Double-Engine’ Government Silent?” – Nana Patole Launches Scathing Attack on State Government
Nagpur: Congress MLA Nana Patole, speaking to reporters in Nagpur today, alleged that the Mahayuti government remains completely indifferent despite the state facing a severe drought situation and standing crops withering away.
“The Congress government in Karnataka declared a drought and took immediate decisions. Why, then, is Maharashtra’s ‘double-engine’ government failing to take action? Do they have no sway at the Centre? This government is acting like someone who would scrape the butter off a dead man’s scalp—exploiting even the most desperate situations,” Patole criticized.
Referring to the letter written by senior leader Sharad Pawar regarding the declaration of drought, Patole said, “The common farmer in the state is bearing the brunt of the drought. Last week, we personally met the Governor to bring the situation to his attention. Despite such a severe drought causing the loss of crops, the government remains unmoved. If it can be done in Karnataka, why not in Maharashtra? That is why we, along with Sharad Pawar and all opposition parties, have adopted an aggressive stance for the rights of farmers. We are unconcerned about whatever allegations the ruling party levels against us.”
Patole also drew attention to the plight of farmers in the paddy-growing districts of Bhandara, Gondia, Gadchiroli, and Chandrapur. “These four districts produce paddy on a large scale. However, farmers there are currently being crushed by government apathy. Rampant corruption is taking place at paddy procurement centers. I have personally presented concrete evidence of this in the Legislative Assembly. The situation with this government is akin to the fence itself eating the crop,” he remarked.
Patole also criticized the internal infighting within the Mahayuti alliance. “Currently, the Mahayuti alliance is plagued by internal infighting, a tug-of-war for control, and a race to outdo one another. An open conflict is underway in Thane between Ganesh Naik and the Shinde faction. Disputes have erupted among the ruling coalition partners in every district of the state. The entire state of Maharashtra is being ruined by this internal bickering within the Mahayuti,” he alleged.
