"Strict Action in Kharat CDR Leak Case; ED to Tighten the Noose on Kharat's Assets"
Nashik: An inquiry will be conducted into the leak of Call Data Records (CDR) in the case involving the charlatan Ashok Kharat, and strict action will be taken. Furthermore, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified that a thorough investigation into Ashok Kharat's assets and financial transactions will be carried out by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Chief Minister Fadnavis was speaking to journalists in Nashik today. He stated, "An inquiry into the CDR leak in the Ashok Kharat case will be undertaken. No individual has the authority to obtain such Call Data Records; this right rests solely with authorized investigative agencies. The State Government will conduct a thorough inquiry to determine how and from whom this data was leaked."
Social activist Anjali Damania had exposed alleged conversations between Kharat and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. She claimed to have received Kharat's CDR via WhatsApp from an unidentified number. Against this backdrop, Fadnavis remarked, "In sensitive matters, mere allegations are not sufficient; action is taken only on the basis of concrete evidence."
Ashok Kharat was arrested on March 18 on charges of raping a woman over a period of three years. Subsequent investigations have uncovered numerous offenses involving sexual assault, land scams, and other financial irregularities. To date, approximately 12 cases have been registered in connection with this matter.
Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). He stated, "People are coming forward in large numbers to provide information regarding Kharat. This is because public trust in the SIT is growing. The SIT is doing excellent work, and one should place their trust in it."
The ED has taken cognizance of this case, and transactions across all of Kharat's bank accounts are currently being scrutinized. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that all illicit assets and fraudulent dealings would be exposed. Fadnavis also suggested that, rather than politicizing the matter, the investigation in this case should be based on facts. His statement made it clear that action would be taken on both fronts—regarding the CDR leak and Kharat's financial irregularities.
