Gujarat:- The 43-year-old bridge on Mahisagar river connecting Vadodara and Anand in Padra area of ????Gujarat suddenly collapsed on Monday. So far nine people have died in this accident, while many people have been seriously injured. According to eyewitnesses, there was heavy traffic on the bridge at the time of the accident. Two trucks, a car and many two-wheelers fell into the river.
As soon as the information was received, the administration and NDRF teams reached the spot and the rescue operation was started. At present it is not clear how many people have fallen into the river. Relief and rescue work is going on.

Here, after getting information about the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief. He wrote that the loss of life due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district of Gujarat is very sad. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.
Announcement of compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased
The PMO also announced compensation for the deceased and the injured. The PMO gave this information on the X handle and wrote that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.
An official said that the incident took place around 7.30 am. Due to the collapse of the bridge, four vehicles including two trucks and a pickup van fell into the Mahisagar river. People were rescued. Police and local people are on the spot. Fire brigade teams are also on the spot. This bridge is also commonly known as a suicide point.
Padra Police Inspector Vijay Charan said that so far four people have been evacuated safely. Due to the river bed being deep and wide, it is not yet clear how many vehicles have fallen into the river.
The bridge was known as 'Suicide Point'
Vadodara's Gambhira bridge built on the Mahisagar river was about 43 years old and was in a dilapidated condition for a long time. Local people also know it as "Suicide Point". Despite this, it was not repaired. According to the information, heavy vehicles coming from Saurashtra often used this bridge to save toll tax.
Vadodara Collector said that even after the accident, no alternative route has been provided for traffic at present. However, a plan to build a new bridge parallel to the bridge was already prepared by the administration.
