Winter Session stirs: Battle in Lok Sabha over vote rigging
“
New Delhi, December 10: The atmosphere in the Lok Sabha heated up on Wednesday during the winter session of Parliament. During the discussion on the Election Reforms Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah started his speech, while Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi directly challenged him.
Amit Shah said at the beginning of his speech, “BJP members do not hesitate to discuss electoral reforms. We are ready to discuss any issue.”
At the same time, Rahul Gandhi stood up from his seat and said in a loud voice, “I challenge the Home Minister! Discuss the three press conferences I held on the allegations of vote rigging (EVM hacking) in this very House!”
To that, Amit Shah quickly replied, “I will decide how and when I will answer. I will answer all the questions. The order of my speech should not be decided by the opposition leaders. I will speak in my own way.”
After Shah’s prepared reply, there was chaos in the House for some time. Speaker Om Birla had to intervene repeatedly. Congress members from the opposition benches protested by raising slogans of “Sham Shame”, while the ruling benches erupted in applause.
The discussion on the Electoral Amendment Bill will continue today, and it seems that this direct confrontation between Rahul Gandhi and Amit Shah will continue to affect the functioning of Parliament.
