Nagpur, Date 12: Considering the 720-kilometer coastline enjoyed by the state, the under-construction Vadhan port and the immense opportunities in the maritime sector, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that the country's largest shipyard should be built in Maharashtra by 2026.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the Port Development Department today in a meeting held at the Council of Ministers Hall located in Vidhan Bhavan. Fisheries and Port Development Minister Nitesh Rane was present on this occasion.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that a detailed project report should be prepared to build the country's largest shipyard. For this, a site should be determined. A railway line should be built from Vaibhavwadi to Kolhapur to develop Jaigad, Angre, Reddy and Vijayawada ports. Provision should be made for the state government's financial participation for this route. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation is building a highway from Vadhan port to Nashik. Development should be planned keeping in mind the affected areas on both sides of this highway.
Considering the importance of the development of the port area, investors should be attracted to do business in this place. A company should be established in coordination with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and the Ports Department for industrial development in this area. Considering the growing port, a special planning authority should be created to develop large ports and related areas.
The boats for the Mumbai Water Metro project should be completely electric. Initially, hybrid models should be used, new boats should be purchased. The Mumbai Water Metro project should be bigger than Kochi, and the project should be completed in this way, said Chief Minister Fadnavis.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Rajesh Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary of the Transport and Ports Department Sanjay Sethi, Chief Executive Officer of the Maharashtra Maritime Board Pradeep P and other officials.
The proposed Mumbai Water Metro project Currently, 1.80 crore passengers are transported annually through 36 passenger routes in Maharashtra. There are 21 passenger routes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, through which 1 crore 60 lakh passengers travel annually. The proposed Mumbai Water Metro project will construct 21 terminals and cover 200 nautical miles of route. The detailed project report for this project is underway.
