Brahmapuri's Temperature Soars to 46.6°C; Red Alert Issued for Vidarbha Including Nagpur; Citizens Urged to Exercise Caution


Nagpur, May 28, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has today issued a 'Red Alert' for several districts across the Vidarbha region, including Nagpur. Due to a severe heatwave, the temperature in Nagpur has reached 45.7°C, while Brahmapuri has emerged as the hottest location in Vidarbha, recording a temperature of 46.6°C.
According to the IMD, intense heatwave conditions will prevail today in the districts of Nagpur, Wardha, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Washim. Additionally, there is a forecast for isolated instances of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.

Gondia – 45.2°C
Wardha – 45.0°C
Amravati – 45.0°C
Bhandara – 44.8°C
Chandrapur – 44.8°C

With night-time temperatures also hovering above 30°C, citizens are enduring oppressive heat even after sunset.
When Can Relief Be Expected?
The Meteorological Department has stated that a shift in wind direction is expected starting May 29, likely leading to a drop in temperatures of 2 to 3 degrees. However, temperatures in most districts are still expected to remain above the 40°C mark.

Avoid stepping outdoors during the afternoon hours
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
Wear light, cotton clothing
Take precautions to prevent heatstroke
The administration has appealed to citizens to refrain from venturing outdoors unless absolutely necessary.
