Corporation will get Rs 4 crore annually from e-waste
Nagpur, May 3: City Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari has come up with an innovative concept that if proper collection and management of e-waste in the city is done, Nagpur Municipal Corporation can get revenue.
The city of Nagpur is developing through smart city. Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to e-waste as well as wet and dry waste management. Manpa has taken initiative in that regard. Nagpur is currently one of the top ten e-waste generating cities in the country. Coordination was brought about by appointing two separate companies for waste management in the city. However, there is no system for disposal of e-waste in Nagpur city. In this regard, the mayor presented this important concept. In that connection, Standing Committee Chairman Prakash Bhoyar has included it in the Corporation's budget. All-party corporators have welcomed this innovative concept.
Accordingly, e-waste was sold to him by determining the vendor through Nagpur Municipal Corporation. If the vendor is given the task of disposing of e-waste as per government policy and rules, the e-waste in the city will come to an end. Apart from this, Nagpur Municipal Corporation is expected to earn Rs. 4 to 5 crore per annum from this waste. By disposing of e-waste, along with environmental protection, new sources of income can be created, said Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari.
The Reserve Bank has formulated a regulation for the disposal of e-waste by the bank as per the rules of the Reserve Bank. As a next step, if the municipality provides a similar system, it will add even more revenue. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari has instructed the administration to take necessary steps to collect and dispose of e-waste from the entire city only one day in a week through the city's waste collection agency on an experimental basis.
This important initiative of the Corporation will take a big step in terms of environmental protection. Batteries, mobiles, chargers, remotes, headphones and other electronic items left behind in the home for years can be dangerous. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari came up with an innovative concept to save the city and the city's environment from major damage by managing it properly.
