India’s First Indigenous Bullet Train Set for Trials in 2027; Mumbai-Vadodara Journey in Just 90 Minutes
Vadodara: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has shared a significant update. The design of India’s first indigenously built bullet train is complete, and it is now ready for trials. He announced at the ‘Namo for Viksit Bharat’ event in Vadodara that the trials for this bullet train would commence in May or June of 2027.
The Minister also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would personally inaugurate the bullet train two to four months after the trials conclude. Once operational, the journey between Mumbai and Vadodara will take just 90 minutes (one and a half hours). Currently, the fastest train on this route, the Vande Bharat Express, takes approximately 4 hours and 44 minutes. The distance between Vadodara Junction and Mumbai Central is roughly 391–392 kilometers.
This project was launched in 2017. After a decade, the country's first bullet train is expected to begin operations on August 15 next year. The plan is to run the train on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route in the first phase, with speeds ranging from 280 to 350 kilometers per hour.
There will be a total of 12 major stations along this route: Mumbai (BKC), Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.
Indian Railways has made extensive preparations for this historic project, marking the beginning of a new era in the country's railway sector through this indigenous bullet train.
