Nagpur, dt. 29: The creation of a common facility center for small and medium enterprises facilitates production as per the market demand. The Orange City Garment Cluster at Kamathi has given a boost to the production of readymade garments. The garment industry is evolving with state-of-the-art machinery and 250 women have been trained in the industry. Divisional Commissioner Smt. Prajakta Lavangare-Verma stated that such industries will be encouraged.
The Divisional Commissioner visited the Orange City Garment Cluster at Masala in Kamathi taluka and inspected the garment production here. He was accompanied by Ashok Dharmadhikari, Joint Director, Industries, and Vipul Panchametia, Head, Cluster.
Around one thousand garment industries are operating unorganized in and around Nagpur city. The group produces readymade garments as well as casual garments. Skilled manpower has been made available in the industry through capacity building through embroidery, washing as well as state-of-the-art machinery. Mrs. Lavangare-Verma said that there was a need to provide incentives for all such industries.
38 components from the garment manufacturing sector came together to form the Orange City Garment Cluster. The Central Government has approved this project. Out of the project cost of Rs 15.91 crore for the common facility center, a grant of Rs 13.40 crore has been given. Also, a special purpose vehicle worth Rs 2 crore 51 lakh is involved. The project was commissioned in 2016 and the design and embroidery facility has been in operation for the last two years. This has resulted in a service charge of Rs. 400 lakhs for the project. Due to the good response, a state-of-the-art new device worth Rs 40 lakh has also been commissioned.
The industry's annual turnover has increased by 30 per cent, said Dharmadhikari, joint director of the industry.
