Eightfold increase in health facilities in the capital during the year
Nagpur, June 8: - After the second wave of corona, there has been a record increase in health facilities. This made it easier to treat patients. The number of beds, oxygen beds and ICU beds in hospitals in Nagpur has increased eight times this year from 989 beds to 7,730 beds as compared to last year. Therefore, the district administration has succeeded in bringing the second wave under control in just one month.
In March 2020, the first corona patient was found in Nagpur. In just one month, in April 2020, the number of corona patients reached 989. Corona patient numbers peaked in September. The number of corona patients this month (September 2020) was 3454. But the second wave was more dangerous for Nagpur. The number of patients reached 4682 in March and 7632 in April. Despite the increase in the number of corona patients, there were no deaths due to lack of beds, oxygen and ventilators in Nagpur.
Nagpur District Guardian Minister Dr. Nitin Raut created a task force for the first time and convinced the experts. He also directed the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector and Municipal Commissioner to immediately increase the health facilities. The Guardian Minister directed not only to discuss with the private doctors in the city but also to meet the demand for increased beds in private hospitals immediately.
Last April, there were only 989 patient beds in Nagpur. With the addition of more than eight beds, the number of beds in Nagpur has increased to 7730 by May 30, 2021. In the second wave, corona patients needed oxygen the most. In April 2020, there were only 805 oxygen beds in Nagpur. Now the number of oxygen beds is 4810. The number of beds in the ICU has increased by 92 percent compared to last year. In April last year, there were only 184 ICU beds in Nagpur. Now the number of these beds has reached 2314. The number of ventilators in Nagpur last year was only 87. There are now 579 ventilators available. In the second wave, corona patients needed more oxygen. In April 2020, Nagpur had only 58 metric tons of oxygen supply. Now Nagpur is producing 160 metric tons of oxygen.
The health facility needed to be updated considering the severity of the corona wave. The health system in Nagpur is definitely under stress as patients are coming to Nagpur not only from the city but also from other districts as well as from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The solution was to strengthen health facilities. For this, the Guardian Minister Dr. Nitin Raut increased the number of beds in Government Medical College, Indira Gandhi Medical College. Similarly, the recognition of some private institutions as Kovid Hospitals has greatly facilitated the patients. On the patients due to the immediate increase in these health facilities
The treatment became easier and the second wave was soon contained.
This success belongs to all -Dr. Nitin Raut
We are all very worried about Corona. But the challenges ahead must be met. There was no alternative but to increase and strengthen health facilities. This was made possible by the cooperation of all the officers and officials of the health system, said the Guardian Minister. However, it is hoped that planning will continue to be strong.
