Tirupati: Hundreds of pilgrims were stranded at the Tirupati temple on Friday due to heavy floods. Due to the flood, the pilgrims could not get out and the Darshan of God was closed.
The Japali Anjaney Swami Temple at Tirumala was seen submerged due to torrential rains. The road is flooded on Char Mada Road adjacent to the main temple on Tirumala Hill. Meanwhile, two roads in the Ghats leading to Tirumala Hills have been closed for traffic due to floods and landslides.
Officials of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam have arranged free meals and accommodation for the pilgrims stranded on the sacred hills. The meteorological department said heavy rains lashed the city of Tirupati and parts of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh due to pressure in the Bay of Bengal.
The landslide damaged three rooms in the Narayangiri guest house complex, but as people inside the rooms had already evacuated, no casualties were reported. Pilgrims living in other rooms in Narayangiri and in nearby SV Guest House have been shifted to safer places. Many pilgrims and residents have shared photos and videos of the situation in Tirupati. There is a huge traffic jam and rescue operation is underway by the police. It is being appealed to avoid going to Tirupati till the situation improves.

Two passenger planes scheduled to land at Tirupati from Hyderabad and Bangalore were diverted. The Southern Railway has canceled trains due to rising water levels near the bridge between TADA and Sullurpet due to torrential rains, while some trains have been diverted.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took stock of the situation by contacting Chittoor District Collector M Hari Narayanan. The CMO said in a statement that Jaganmohan Reddy had asked the district collector to monitor the water level and take necessary steps.
