Be vigilant against cybercrimes, file a complaint early - Chief Minister

Mumbai, October 4, 2025: In the wake of increasing incidents of cyber fraud, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has appealed to citizens to be vigilant against cybercrimes and to file a complaint immediately if they are cheated. He mentioned that prompt action and awareness are important to deal with cybercriminals.
The Chief Minister said that in cyber fraud incidents, citizens are being cheated through theft of money from bank accounts, phishing emails, fake websites and fake calls. "Cyber ??criminals target common citizens very cleverly and using technology. In such a situation, if you are cheated, you should not panic and immediately file a complaint with the police," Fadnavis clarified.
How to file a complaint against cyber fraud?
The Chief Minister appealed to citizens to use the available mechanisms to report cyber fraud incidents immediately. A complaint can be filed on the Government of India's Cyber ??Crime Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in). Also, the National Cyber ??Crime Complaint Registration Helpline number 1930 can be contacted. Such complaints can also be filed at the local police station.
"The sooner a complaint is registered, the sooner the police will be able to reach the criminals and prevent damage," the Chief Minister said. He has directed the police to investigate cyber crimes expeditiously and ensure strict punishment for the criminals.
Government's efforts for cyber security
The Maharashtra government has taken several measures to fight cyber crimes. The number of cyber police stations has been increased and special teams of cyber experts have been set up. Apart from this, various awareness campaigns are being conducted to create awareness among the citizens about cyber security.
The Chief Minister appealed to the citizens to take the following precautions:
Do not click on suspicious links.
Do not respond to calls or messages from strangers.
Do not give confidential information like bank account, password or OTP to anyone.
Use safe and trusted websites while doing online transactions.
Citizens should be vigilant
Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the cooperation of citizens is important in fighting cybercrimes. "Vigilance and awareness are necessary so that citizens do not fall into the trap of cyber fraud. As the use of technology is increasing, we all must act responsibly to prevent its misuse," he noted.
The Chief Minister once again underlined the commitment of the Maharashtra government and the police system to prevent incidents of cyber fraud and catch the criminals. He finally appealed to citizens to report any suspicious incident immediately.
