‘Devendra Fadnavisji, would you call RSS an urban Naxal?’

‘Ambedkar’s tough question to Fadnavis over the RSS’s Shastrapujan’
Mumbai, October 3, 2025: Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi chief Adv. Prakash Ambedkar has launched a strong attack on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) Shastrapujan program. Ambedkar has raised a tough question by asking Fadnavis directly, “Devendra Fadnavisji, would you call RSS an urban Naxal?” This question has currently become a topic of heated discussion in the political circles of the state.
Controversy over Shastrapujan
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh organizes a Shastrapujan program every year on the occasion of Vijayadashami. This year too, this program was held, but Adv. Ambedkar has objected to this program. He has questioned the role of the Fadnavis government in calling the programme a ‘culture of violence’. “How can the same government, which has repeatedly raised the issue of urban Naxalism, now support RSS’s weapon worship?” Ambedkar asked.
Political context and criticism
While raising this question, Ambedkar also targeted the policies of the central and state governments. “It is often alleged that RSS and its affiliated organisations promote the use of weapons and violence in society. So why doesn’t the Fadnavis government stop this? Or does it not have the courage to call them urban Naxals?” Ambedkar said in a press conference. He further claimed that on the one hand, the government talks about taking action against Naxalism, while on the other hand, it is giving silent consent to such programmes.
Fadnavis’ silence
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has not yet given any official answer to this question. However, some BJP leaders have termed Ambedkar's statement as 'politically motivated' and 'an attempt to defame the RSS'. A BJP leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "Shastrapujan is a cultural event of the RSS and it is wrong to link it with violence." Ambedkar responded by saying, "Promoting weapons in the name of culture is an attempt to take society in the wrong direction."
