Fadnavis slams Thackeray; reprimanded on Marathi identity issue

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has strongly criticized Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) chief Uddhav Thackeray on the issue of Marathi identity and Mumbai's development. Responding to Thackeray's criticism, Fadnavis said, "Our government is committed to the welfare of Mumbai and the Marathi people. Those who only talk, should compare our work."
Fadnavis further said that the state government has implemented many schemes for the preservation of Marathi language and culture and has also taken significant steps for the development of Mumbai. "We will never compromise with the self-respect of the Marathi people," he asserted.
Uddhav Thackeray had earlier accused the Fadnavis government of ignoring the Marathi language and the local interests of Mumbai. In response, Fadnavis also mentioned the decisions taken during Thackeray's tenure and quipped, "We don't just talk, we act."
The controversy has once again heated up the political atmosphere in Mumbai, and the issue of Marathi identity is likely to become important in the upcoming elections.
