Farmers get only rotten grains; Uddhav Thackeray attacks state government
Given rotten food as aid, insult to farmers; Thackeray tells government
Dharashiv (Representative) - Although the state government has announced a large financial package for farmers, in reality, not even enough aid has reached the hands of farmers to meet their daily needs. On the contrary, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) party chief Uddhav Thackeray has strongly criticized the state government, making a serious allegation that rotten grains were given to food suppliers. "Aren't you ashamed to give rotten grains to food suppliers?" Thackeray took the government to task in these words.
Farmers in Dharashiv district are waiting for government help while they are in crisis. Due to natural disasters, drought and fluctuations in market prices, the farmers' financial back has been broken. The government announced a package worth crores of rupees for farmers, but it seems that it has remained only on paper. Farmers in rural areas were expecting seeds, fertilizers or loan waivers, but in reality, the food grains available from ration shops are also of poor quality.
Speaking at a meeting in Dharashiv, Uddhav Thackeray pointed out the government's two-pronged policy. He said, "Farmers are the backbone of the country. Instead of helping them, it is a cruel picture of the government to humiliate them by giving them rotten food grains. This government, which is misleading the public by announcing big packages, is ignoring the suffering of farmers. Those who give rotten food grains to food suppliers should be ashamed. If this food grains reach the farmers' homes, there will be a problem with their health."
Thackeray's criticism has been supported by leaders of opposition parties. A local leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Chandra Pawar) said, "Farmers are in distress in the entire Marathwada including Dharashiv. The help given by the government is just a show. Rotten food grains are the height of humiliation." On the other hand, a BJP MLA rejected these allegations. He said, "There is no question of providing rotten grains. The supply department strictly checks. The opposition is only doing politics."
The demand for an inquiry into the matter is gaining momentum. Farmers' organizations have warned of taking to the streets and protesting. The Dharashiv district administration, however, clarified that there are no irregularities in the supply of grains and immediate action will be taken if complaints are received. But the farmers have a different view. A farmer said, "We don't need a package, but at least we should get good grains. How can we live by eating rotten grains?"
Farmers' dissatisfaction is increasing due to this government policy. In the last few months, incidents of farmer suicides have increased in Marathwada. According to experts, if aid is not delivered in a timely and transparent manner, the farmers' crisis will worsen. Uddhav Thackeray warned the government, "Be aware of the suffering of the farmers, otherwise the public will teach you a lesson."
The repercussions of this incident are being felt across the state. The opposition parties are preparing to raise this issue in the legislature. The big question is when a real package will come to help the farmers. For now, all that the farmers have got is rotten grains and disappointment.
