For disaster management Nagpur pattern to be implemented across the state- Vijay Vadettiwar
Nagpur, Dec 14: Maharashtra is currently grappling with natural calamities. The pattern of life saver course run by JD Foundation and administration in Nagpur district will be implemented across the state, said Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Vaddetiwar.
He was speaking at an online event of the JD Life Saver course organized by the District Disaster Management Authority, Collectorate, JD Sports Foundation.
Divisional Commissioner Smt. Prajakta Lavangare-Verma, Collector Smt. Vimala Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B., Retired Joint Director of Sports and President of JD Sports Foundation Dr. Jaiprakash Duble, General Secretary Jayant Duble, District Disaster Management Officer Ankush Gawande were present on the occasion.
Currently 100 youths are being trained in this disaster management workshop. The number of such youths who are interested in volunteering can be increased to 1000 and they can be trained as lifeguards. The society and the citizens should also take responsibility for facing the disaster. Saving lives in disasters should be the priority, said Divisional Commissioner Smt. Lavangare.
He said a list of lifeguards, NGO workers and the general public should be available to the Disaster Management Cell. He also assured that the Commissioner's Office would extend all possible cooperation in disaster relief work.
Citizens need to be alert and vigilant to prevent any kind of disaster like fire, flood, landslide, fatal accident on the road at any time. However, the real need is to have trained manpower available in time to deal with the calamity that comes with it, said District Collector R. Vimala said. That is why he expects training to produce skilled lifeguards.
Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan b. He also expressed the feeling that the hands of the system are being strengthened by the vigilant citizens and trained youth in times of calamity.
