Former bureaucrats are trying their luck on many seats

New Delhi. There is currently an atmosphere of Lok Sabha elections in the country. These elections are being held in seven phases, which will start from April 19 and end on June 1. The first phase of Lok Sabha voting has taken place, while the second round of voting is on April 26. Meanwhile, contests have been decided on many seats. There are many such seats in this election from where former bureaucrats are contesting.

Uttar Pradesh
Even in UP, a state with 80 seats, many former bureaucrats are trying their luck in the Lok Sabha elections. Talking about the popular candidates, retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Suresh Singh is contesting from Mathura. Suresh Singh, who is contesting from BSP, has worked in the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Indian Revenue Service. Film actress Hema Malini is currently the MP from BJP on this seat and is once again contesting. At the same time, Congress has made Mukesh Dhangar its face.
BSP has made former Deputy Superintendent of Police Shubh Narayan Gautam its candidate for Kaushambi seat. He joined the police as a sub-inspector in 1982. After this he worked as a circle officer in many districts including Prayagraj and Lucknow. After retirement in 2019, he joined BSP. In this election, Shubh Narayan Gautam is contesting against BJP's Vinod Sonkar and SP's Pushpendra Saroj. In 2019, Vinod Sonkar from BJP had won the Kaushambi seat.
Bihar
Ara is a popular seat in the state with 40 seats. Former IAS officer RK Singh is contesting from Arrah seat for the third consecutive time. RK Singh is contesting on BJP ticket. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1975. During his career, RK Singh served as the Home Secretary of Bihar, Principal Secretary of the state Public Works Department, Secretary of the Department of Defense Production to the Government of India and Home Secretary of India.
In this election, Sudama Prasad from CPI(ML) is facing RK Singh. CPI(ML) is included in the grand alliance in the state. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's RK Singh had won the Ara Lok Sabha seat. After winning the elections, RK Singh also became a part of the Modi government at the Centre.
Punjab
BJP has made former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu its candidate for Amritsar seat in the state. Sandhu, who recently entered politics, has been India's Ambassador to America. The former IFS officer is facing minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal from Aam Aadmi Party and Gurjit Singh Aulja from Congress. Gurjit Singh Aulja of Congress is currently the MP on this seat.
IAS officer Parampal Kaur Sidhu is contesting from Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency. He is contesting as a BJP candidate. Parampal, who recently joined BJP, is trying her electoral luck by adopting the process of voluntary retirement.
In this election, Parampal Kaur Sidhu is facing minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddiyan from AAP, Jeet Mahinder Sidhu from Congress and Harsimrat Kaur Badal from Shiromani Akali Dal. At present Harsimrat Kaur of SAD is the MP on this seat.
Tamil Nadu
Voting has taken place on all 39 seats in the first phase in the state. There was a lot of discussion about a Coimbatore seat in Tamil Nadu in this election. Actually, from here BJP has fielded former IPS K. Ticket was given to Annamalai. Presently he is the President of Tamil Nadu BJP. Annamalai has been an IPS officer of 2011 batch in Karnataka. As an IPS officer, he served in Udupi, Chikmagalur and Bengaluru. Due to Annamalai's work, people called him 'Singham of Karnataka Police'.
In another seat of the state, Tiruvallur, the electoral fate of former IAS officer Shashikant Senthil has been captured in EVMs. Senthil was made the candidate from Congress. He left civil services in 2019 to enter politics. In this election, he faced K. from DMDK. Nalla Thambi and Pon from BJP. V. Balaganapathi.
West Bengal
Even in Bengal, which sent 42 Lok Sabha MPs, former officers are trying their political luck. Former IPS officer Debashish Dhar is the BJP candidate from Birbhum seat. The 2010 batch IPS officer resigned from the service last month. Dhar has also worked in CBI. In this election, Debashish Dhar is facing Satabdi Roy from TMC and Milton Rashid from Congress. In 2019, Shatabdi Roy from TMC won the Birbhum seat.
Former IPS officer Prasun Banerjee is contesting from Malda North, another seat in the state. Prasun has been made the candidate by TMC. Recently he had given his voluntary retirement. Prasun, a 2006 batch IPS officer, has also served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in South Dinajpur and Malda, and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in Balurghat and Malda and in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Prasun Banerjee is facing Khagen Murmu from BJP and Mustaq Alam from Congress. Apart from this, former officers are trying their luck in elections in different states of the country as independent or candidates of regional parties.
