Mumbai: A helicopter manufacturing plant with an investment of about Rs 8 thousand crore will be set up in Nagpur. In this regard, today (Friday) in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Max Aerospace and Aviation Pvt. Ltd. and the Industries Department of the Maharashtra Government signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a helicopter manufacturing plant in Nagpur. Chief Minister Fadnavis said that this will give a boost to the defense manufacturing sector in Nagpur.
What is the agreement?
According to this agreement, Max Aerospace will set up a helicopter manufacturing plant in Nagpur and its actual work will start from 2026. About two thousand direct and indirect jobs will be created in this project and about 8 thousand crores will be invested in this project in eight years.
This agreement will be a milestone in promoting India's 'Make in India' and 'Self-reliant India' campaign. This will be the first project in Maharashtra dedicated to the customization and complete manufacturing of helicopters. This initiative will help Maharashtra emerge as a major hub for aerospace manufacturing.
The project will incorporate international standard technology and will act as a Centre of Excellence for customization, integration and flight testing of rotary-wing platforms. The centre will be located near Nagpur airport, which will leverage existing infrastructure and logistical support. This will also contribute to India’s growing aerospace supply chain.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that he is happy that Max Aerospace has chosen Maharashtra, especially Nagpur, for helicopter manufacturing. The state government is also involved in Max Aerospace’s business journey. Good facilities have been created in Nagpur for the defence manufacturing sector. All necessary support will be provided to Max Aerospace for its manufacturing plant. The company should start its production work on time.
Bharat Malkani, Chairman of Max Aerospace, said that Nagpur has a perfect ecosystem for the defense manufacturing sector and the state government has provided all the necessary facilities for manufacturing. Since I am originally from Maharashtra, I have decided to start a manufacturing center in Maharashtra.
