Illegal Liquor Claims 8 Lives in Fugewadi! Many in Critical Condition
Pimpri-Chinchwad (May 29, 2026): A horrific tragedy has struck the Fugewadi area following the consumption of illegal liquor laced with toxic spirits. So far, eight people have died, and many others remain in critical condition. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire locality.
The tragedy unfolded across the areas of Dapodi, Fugewadi, Anandvan, Katevasti, Sanjaynagar, Azad Chowk, and Jai Maharashtra Chowk. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the prime accused, Yogesh Wankhede, manufactured this toxic liquor and distributed it for sale across various parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The police have arrested Yogesh Wankhede, a notorious peddler of illicit liquor. He has several prior criminal cases registered against him.
The Deceased:
Vijay Rathod and Rajendra Rathod (both biological brothers)
Baba Shaikh (44 years old, Carpenter)
Akbar Pathan (52 years old, Electrician)
Rajesh Rajput, Pandurang Phuge, Anand Nikalje, and Anand Desai
This incident has devastated numerous families. With two brothers from the same family losing their lives, their kin have been overwhelmed by an unimaginable tragedy.
The police are currently conducting further investigations to determine whether this toxic liquor was distributed and sold in other locations as well. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also issued orders for strict action to be taken in this matter.
