New Delhi: Gates at 16 metro stations have been closed for security reasons amidst protest demonstrations by the CJP (Cockroach Janata Party) and the Congress party in the national capital. These include major stations such as Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Janpath, and Central Secretariat.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that a total of 16 stations—including Janpath, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, and Central Secretariat—have been closed until further notice. Passenger entry and exit at these stations have been completely suspended; however, interchange facilities within the stations remain operational, allowing commuters to switch between metro lines.
Why was this decision taken?
Protesters from the CJP staged aggressive demonstrations during a 'Parliament March' on Monday.
This led to a breakdown of law and order in several areas, including the vicinity of Rajiv Chowk.
The government took this decision as a security measure following the protests led by Congress leaders as well.
The DMRC has informed commuters via Twitter that these stations are temporarily closed for security reasons and that this arrangement will remain in place until further notice.
