Inauguration of electric lighting system at Vidhan Bhavan
Nagpur Dt. 14: The newly constructed permanent electric lighting system on the Vidhan Bhavan building was inaugurated today by Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rahul Narvekar in a program presided over by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the Vidhan Bhavan area in Yani and inspected the electrical lighting and decoration done in the facade of the Vidhan Bhavan building by the Public Works Department. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Narvekar, Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, MLA Praveen Datke and Krishna Khopde were present on the occasion.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rahul Narvekar said that Nagpur's Vidhan Sabha building has made a big contribution in giving justice to Vidarbha. He said that this building, which was completed between 1912 and 1914, hosted the first meeting of members of the Legislative Council in 1920 and the first session of the Union of Maharashtra in 1960 to give representation to the people of India. The beauty of this beautiful building is enhanced by permanent electric lighting. He said that similar attractive lighting will be done in Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai as in Nagpur. He also said that an initiative has been taken by the government for the expansion of the Nagpur Vidhan Bhavan building and soon the expanded building of the new Vidhan Sabha will be seen.
Hemant Patil, Superintendent Engineer of Public Works Department introduced the programme. This work has been completed with one crore and seven lakh rupees from the District Planning Development Fund for electric lighting of various shades. He said that international specifications have been used and these shades can be controlled from any part of the country through a special system.
On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rahul Narvekar felicitated the engineers who completed the electrical lighting work.
Citizens also thronged in large numbers to see the illuminated area in Vidhan Bhavan area.
