Layoffs hit the US, thousands of Indian IT professionals in trouble

If you don't get a new job in 60 days, you will have to return home!
Washington. Thousands of Indian IT professionals who have been rendered jobless by recent layoffs at companies like Google, Microsoft and Amazon in the US are now struggling to find new employment within the stipulated period of their work visas to stay in the country. .
According to 'The Washington Post', since November last year, about two lakh employees in the IT sector have been laid off. Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon are among the companies cutting a record number of these. Sources said that 30 to 40 per cent of those laid off are Indian IT professionals. A large number of these are people who came here on H-1B or L1 visa. Now these people are looking for options to stay in the US and struggle to find new employment within the stipulated few months period they get under foreign working visas after losing their jobs, which can also change their visa status. .
Geeta (name changed) came here just three months ago to work in Amazon. This week he was told that March 20 would be his last day in office. Another IT professional who came to the US on an H-1B visa was thrown out by Microsoft on January 18. “The situation is very bad,” she says. For those who came here on H-1B visas, the situation is even worse, as they have to find a new job within 60 days or return to India.
Entrepreneur and community leader in Silicon Valley Ajay Jain Bhutodia said, “It is unfortunate that thousands of workers in the technology sector are being laid off, especially for those who came on H-1B visas, the challenges are even bigger.”
Global Indian Technology Professionals Association (GITPRO) and Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) on Sunday launched a community initiative to help these IT professionals.
