Mumbai Police Deny Permission for CJP Protest; Abhijit Deepke Threatens ‘Jail Bharo’ Agitation
Mumbai: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) had called for a protest in Mumbai on October 2 against the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. However, the Mumbai Police have denied permission for the protest, which was planned to be held at Shivaji Park.
CJP founder Abhijit Deepke had demanded the immediate resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. He had warned that if the resignation was not tendered, a nationwide agitation would be launched from Mumbai on Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary (October 2). Ajinkya Shinde, the party's National Organizing Chief, had sought permission to hold the event at Shivaji Park.
The Mumbai Police rejected the application, citing the High Court's ruling in PIL No. 116/2009 (dated January 4, 2013) and the Maharashtra Government's order dated January 20, 2016; these directives state that there is no authority to grant permission for any public gathering at Shivaji Park. The police advised the organizers to seek an alternative venue and submit a fresh application.
Reacting to this decision, Abhijit Deepke stated in a social media post, "Such attempts to suppress the voice of citizens are unacceptable. If the right to protest is denied, the CJP will launch a ‘Jail Bharo’ (fill the jails) agitation in Mumbai on Gandhi Jayanti."
Note: MNS President Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray have also organized a massive protest march on October 4.
