A Melodious Ocean of Emotions Has Vanished – Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai: The news of the passing of Ashatai—who celebrated her ninetieth birthday with great fanfare just three years ago—is deeply saddening. With her demise, another star has fallen from the illustrious Mangeshkar family constellation, following the departure of Latadidi. Expressing his grief with the sentiment that "the beautiful garden of melodies has today been left desolate," Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis offered a heartfelt tribute to the veteran singer, Padma Vibhushan, and Maharashtra Bhushan recipient, Asha Bhosle.

"Ashatai’s voice was the very soul of music. She represented an 'evergreen season' in the realm of singing—a melodious ocean of emotions and sentiments. Ashatai Bhosle, who effortlessly rendered songs spanning a vast spectrum of moods—from soulful tracks like 'Tora Man Darpan Kehlaye' to upbeat numbers like 'Khallas'—left her unique imprint while singing across diverse musical genres, including devotional songs, *Bhavgeet* (sentimental songs), *Natya Sangeet* (theatrical music), Ghazals, Classical music, *Rabindra Sangeet*, folk songs, and pop. She sang over 12,000 songs in 20 Indian languages—including Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali—as well as in various foreign languages. In addition to honors such as the 'Maharashtra Bhushan,' she was also conferred with awards like the 'Bangla Vibhushan.' We shall never again witness the likes of such a versatile singer who embraced change with such effortless grace. We were together quite recently at an event marking World Radio Day; on that occasion, she had insisted that I sing the song 'Abhi Na Jao Chhodkar...' and had even remarked, 'Look, I made the Chief Minister sing!' The very thought that we will no longer be blessed with Ashatai’s presence is simply unimaginable. I offer her my heartfelt tribute. We stand in solidarity with her family and her countless fans across the nation in their hour of grief," stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in his condolence message.
